Fundamental Objective of This Report †Free Samples for Students

Question: What Is The Fundamental Objective Of This Report? Answer: Introduction In the provided case study, it has been stated that ten different hotel chains are forming a partnership to act as a single chain in order to solve the problem of regular losses on revenue. The fundamental objective of this report is to analyze the issue and the proposed strategies adopted by the combined management team. Previously, the hotels had manual booking system where the tourist or some customer had to be physically present in the hotel or its office in a certain place to book a room either in advance or instantly (Lee, Hung Chau, 2013). The moment web based booking sites give rooms to the clients at a significantly less expensive rate. Subsequently, despite the fact that the client tally in the lodgings is expanding, there are misfortunes in the administration costs and henceforth, the corporate pictures of the inns are gradually getting diluted. In this report, the problem has been identified and the proposed strategies and solutions of the company have been analyzed. Case Study Analysis: StayTogether Hotel Chain The Problem Previously, the hotels had manual booking system where the tourist or some customer had to be physically present in the hotel or its office in a certain place to book a room either in advance or instantly. However, with the development of technology, this situation has changed significantly. With the inception of smartphones and the different operating systems (Android, iOS), several apps have been developed for various purposes (for video calling, device customization, online messaging, social media and others). One of these apps is online hotel room booking system. These apps provide the option of booking hotel rooms online at very discounted prices. As a result, the rooms are rented to the customers at much lower prices than usual and the hotels face significant losses whereas the app developers gain a significant amount of money from the booking services (Kock, 2014). Moreover, due to the extreme convenience, the apps have become extremely popular with the tourists and other visi tors. Due to the popularity of these apps, the customer count has increased significantly but on the other hand, the revenues of the hotels have decreased significantly. As a result, some hotels have even gone on to the verge of extinction. Chosen Strategy for Solving the Problems The management team of the merged ten hotel chains has discussed the possibilities of several new offers that can be provided to the customers instead of providing huge discounts on the room prices. The team has decided the following services for the customers. The hotel chain will be merged into one single chain (namely StayTogether Hotel Chain) and the customers can avail the offers at any branch of the chain. The company will develop an Android and iOS app for booking the hotel rooms of this particular chain. However, there will be no discounts for booking through this app. There will be no discounts on hotel rooms unless some special bonuses are awarded. In the peak tourism months, the prices of the rooms will be higher than normal prices. Proposed New Offers The management team has decided to introduce some offers to compensate for fixed rates for the hotel rooms. The proposed offers are as follows. Loyalty Program for Customers In spite of the fact that there will be no immediate rebates on the lodging spaces for the customers, the administration group has chosen to acquaint a customer dependability program with reward the as often as possible going to customers. There will be various offers for the customers in light of the loyalty bonus score accumulated by them. Reliability focuses can be gathered by a customer with expanding visits to the lodging network and in addition the recurrence of the visits. The offers in light of these loyalty score will increment with the expansion in the focuses. At one point, the customer will have the capacity to get to free transportation to the lodging from the rail station or the airplane terminal. The customers bringing their own particular cars will have the capacity to get to the lodging's free parking spot also. With considerably higher loyalty score, the customer will be granted with free night at the lodging. The administration group expects that these offers will intrigue the customers to visit the hotel chain all the more regularly and will bring about expanding income of the organization. Buffet Meal System The administration group has additionally chosen to change the current restaurant model to lessen additional costs, acquire benefit and give a more helpful service to the clients. In the current eatery framework, the organization needs to enroll servers to serve the dishes to the clients. Accordingly, the installments to the waiters are additional costs for the organization. The company also loses a significant amount of costs on the leftovers and excess food the visitors could not be able to eat. Hence, the buffet system will be introduced where the visitors will be able to take the right amount of food themselves. There will also be a small restaurant area for children, old and disabled. Discounts and Rebates The administration group is likewise considering tying association with some airline organizations for shared advantages in regards to clients. As per the proposed terms of this organization, the clients achieving the lodging through these carrier organizations, they will get certain refunds. These refunds will be appropriate on lodging admission or the feast costs. The administration group expects that this plan will profit them and in addition the carrier organizations. Nomination of Charity The organization is additionally wanting to give cash some charity occasions designated by the clients themselves. To the charity nominated by a regular visitor, the company will be obliged to pay 1% of total billable amount. Probable Issues Related to IT and IS The probable IT and IS issues related to the proposed new system are as follows. Issues in App Development As indicated by the proposed new management plan, the association will develop an electronic booking application for Android and iOS customers. Since the app development life cycle goes through a number of phases like -stage, -stage, demo stage and others, there are possibilities of issues in different stages of the development. Hence, selection of a suitable methodology is necessary so that these errors and issues can be avoided easily. Moreover, following the development of the demo version, the company should allow the customers to check the app and identify errors. Based on the customer feedback, the company needs to make suitable changes in the app. Management of Online Data There might be some issues rising in data organization and management if there is no proper data administration system. With growing customers, there will be merging of a colossal measure of data. Manual operations will not have the ability to manage each one of the data decisively (Ferrero Sison, 2014). From this time forward, a modernized data organization structure is key or the association will stand up to basic test in managing all the customer information. Issues Related to the Internet (Cyber Security Issues) Cyber security will be a significant and challenging test for the hotel chain once the proposed information system application ends up being totally operational. For booking purposes, the customers ought to enter their own information in the application and in this way, the application will be the simple focus for different programmers and dishonest software engineers (Gattorna, 2015). Thusly, the assurance of the customers' information will be lost unless satisfactory digital security endeavors are taken. Customer Service A minor information system issue will be inability to address the issues expressed by the customer. Hence, a suitable customer service framework is necessary so that all the queries and issues expressed by the customers can be addressed very quickly. New Opportunities and Business Ventures If the proposed system is implemented, several new business opportunities will open up. These are as follows. Automated Tour Guide (Personalized) The organization can wander into business of customized tour guide (automated) with a specific end goal to help the visitors and tourists that take the services of the hotel network. The automated tour guide will be beneficial for international tourists and will also be an extra source of income for the company. New Chain of Fast Food Shops StayTogether hotel network can open another fast food chain network that can be an extra wellspring of income for the organization. The lodging network as of now has eateries joined to the hotel lofts. Nonetheless, there can be another chain for only eateries where clients can get fast food and in addition easygoing and full dinners. The eatery network can be made specific like Italian fast food network, Chinese fast food network, Mexican eatery network and others. With adequate brand esteem, there will be no time till deluge of clients begin in the eatery network. Conclusion In this report, the new proposed strategies of the organization have been investigated and suggestions have been accommodated boosting the advantages from these approaches for the organization. As indicated by the new proposed arrangements of the administration group, there will be just a single web based booking site and there will be uniform costs all the year round. The administration group has arranged a client dedication conspire so as to acquire reliability from the clients i.e. give extraordinary administrations to clients with the goal that they will profit their administrations again later on. The administration group has additionally chosen to change the current eatery model to lessen additional costs, acquire benefit and give a more advantageous framework to the clients. Another change the administration group is anxious to actualize is putting forth certain discounts to the clients in the event that they profit administrations of some specific aircrafts. The organization is intrigued is shaping associations with these carriers where both sides can profit by expanding measure of the travelers/clients. At long last, the organization is additionally wanting to give cash some philanthropy occasions selected by the clients themselves. As per this arrangement, a general client will have the capacity to assign a philanthropy to which, StayTogether will pay 1% of the aggregate billable sum. Notwithstanding, the issue with these approaches is that there are no specific advantages for the clients. Additionally, because of settled costs of the rooms, there will be no rebates for the clients. Then again, the clients look for rooms with exceptional rebates or low costs. Consequently, the administration group has chosen to actualize four new administrations that will profit the clients who will book rooms in the StayTogether lodging. Recommendations Based on the analysis of the case study, the following recommendations can be provided. Internet Security Internet security is an essential part of an information system of an organization. There are different threats of cyber attacks and malwares that can cause huge losses to the company. Hence, the company should implement appropriate security measures in order to minimize the chances of the cyber security threats. The insurance of the customers' information will be lost unless sufficient cyber security endeavors are taken. Certain Benefits for the Customers The organization must give certain advantages to the clients with a specific end goal to procure their trust and steadfastness. As indicated by the new arrangements of the organization, there will be just a single web based booking site and there will be settled costs all the year round. Be that as it may, the issue with these strategies is that there are no specific advantages for the clients. Besides, because of settled costs of the rooms, there will be no rebates for the clients. Thus, the organization must accentuate on giving different advantages to the clients. Policies On account of income and benefit, organization must be strict with their strategies without hurting the clients' advantages in any capacity. It is a propensity for the vast majority of the clients to deal with the specialist organization and lower the real costs of the administrations. Therefore, if the costs are really brought down, the organization will experience critical misfortunes in the business. Thus, the organization ought to execute strict evaluating strategy that must be brought down for some devoted clients in light of their reliability focuses or some occasion particular rebates. William Faulkners Barn Burning Essay Example For Students

William Faulkners Barn Burning Essay In William Faulkners Barn Burning one of the main characters, the antagonist, is Abner Snopes. He is rather static. He is faced with having to provide a life for his family as a sharecropper. This simple living is the cause of all the problems that have arisen. From staying out of jail, trying to teach his youngest son, and delivering his form of justice to those he feels have wronged him. Abner Snopes is not a bad or cruel person by his standards. He is simply a person of fortune, he also knows no other way to act. Abner Snopes strengths and weakness as a person are very admirable when placed in to mind that this person is one that was poorly educated, if at all. And for the most part is following the example set fourth by his father. One strength that is evident is his self-preservation drive. He is constantly trying to preserve himself and his family although one method that he at times chooses to use are illegal and wrong. He is trying to make a living at whatever cost. This particular strength is shown in two places. We will write a custom essay on William Faulkners Barn Burning specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now His strength to do whatever it takes to live is the example of him running horses during the civil war for both the Union and Confederate armies. An example to show his self-preservation would be when he moves his family to another farm to work, and thus removing himself and family from danger. His strengths are strong but do not outweigh his weaknesses. All of his weaknesses can be summed up in being poorly educated and a product of his environment and following by example. As the story progresses Abner being poorly educated is shown by his inability to deal with conflict and resolve them in a civil manner. This is shown by Abner having to go to trail due to his barn burning tendencies. Also his method in dealing with the rug that he soiled with horse manure. Although no mention of Abner father is in the story a presumption could be made by comparing Abner eldest son, he helps his father set the fires to act out against those that have wronged him. The presumption could be then made through deductive reasoning that Abner Snopes himself did the same with his father as a child. Abner Snopes the entire story remains static his has no change or growth. He remains ignorant or the way in which to live civil by. Abner Snopes is a character that must be looked into deeply before jumping to a conclusion that all he does continually whish is wrong. Yes is it wrong but this person knows no better. He is trying to survive and live a life that was shown to him by his father, a life in which family comes before all others and above the law. He is trying to show his children this. Although misguided, a good job. He knows no better. Abner is this way because his is a product of his environment and of example. Abner is not a person that initiative to change he is simply ignorant and stubborn. He chooses not to change.

Bang and Olufsen Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Bang and Olufsen - Case Study Example The main elements in this understanding were an acknowledgment that simply producing televisions, radios, and other such traditional electronic devices would not suffice in the contemporary cultural and design climate. In this new world companies would increasingly have to adhere to virtual spaces in determining both design and product innovation. Even as Bang and Olufsen has developed a reputation as a modern day innovator in terms of cutting-edge design practices, they also have a long history of production excellence. The company began in 1925 building radios for family friends. The company resisted aiding the Nazi’s in the Second World War and experienced tremendous strife for this decision. They then became regarded as ‘The Danish Quality Brand’. With the upsurge in Asian manufacturing competition, the company recognized that securing a firm market share required significant innovation. It was during this period that they moved towards a design first strategy, bringing on first-rate architects and designers. This business approach persisted until the 1980s when increased Asian competition demanded further innovation. During this period the company overhauled their distribution methods. ... In classifying the type of innovative that Bang and Olufsen had undergone, one must consider their design process in relation to the companies overarching strategic perspective and approach. Bang and Olufsen established themselves early on as committed to quality and sound product development. This trend continued until the later part of the 20th century, as the firm progressively moved towards innovative design processes to establish market differentiation. As noted earlier, with Apple’s innovative product development and the explosion of Internet technology, for Bang and Olufsen to retain s significant market share it was required of them to not only maintain significant design standards, but to increasingly consider the means of innovating software. One telling quote in these regards was made by the company’s CEO Torben Ballegaard who stated, â€Å"It’s like insulin in the human body; too little and you die, too much and you die† (pg. 2). In these regar ds, Ballegaard was referring to the notion that in overcapitulating to the technological development trends established by Apple and to some degree Microsoft, the company could lose the foundation that brought them to market prominence to begin with; of course, the converse of this, is that in neglecting these technological currents the company could be deemed irrelevant and experience ever dwindling profits. The company’s response to these product challenges was through hybrid strategic, design and product innovation. In many regards, the company believed that its process format was conducive to innovation and product development it was just that this process needed to be shifted to reflect the current cultural climate. In these regards, the case analysis notes, â€Å"Sorensen

How has leadership thinking evolved from traditional 'great man' Essay

How has leadership thinking evolved from traditional 'great man' theories to more contemporary theories of leadership - Essay Example The theories do not pursue a firm sequential pattern, although the models may be grouped by era. Leadership has evolved through eras of the Great Man theory, trait theory, behavioral theory, situational theories and contemporary theories. Great men theory suggests that some people were naturally born leaders. Trait theory looks at the elements that are common among famous leaders. Behavioral theories assert that behaviors are the single most characteristic that makes up a leader. Contingency and situational models uphold that the interaction involving leader’s characteristics and conduct and the situation at hand make the leader. Other contemporary theories focus on interpersonal elements that look at followership (Ballus, 2010, para 5). Great man theories/ Trait theories Trait theory was one of the systematic attempts to study leadership in the early 20th century. In the approach, traits of great leaders such as Winston Churchill were studies to determine what makes great lea ders. The theories developed were referred to as ‘great man’ theories as they focused on spotting the innate qualities and characteristics possessed by political, social and military leaders. Prominent leaders’ traits greatly contribute to the trait theory such as Mahatma Gandhi, Bonaparte napoleon and Abraham Lincoln. It was widely believed that people intuitive with these qualities and that simply the â€Å"great† people have them. Some of the traits put forward are such as intelligence, alertness, responsibility, insight, self confidence, sociability, motivation, persistence, initiative, tolerance, cooperativeness and drive. Others are such as cognitive abilities, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and social and emotional intelligence. In the mid 20th century, the trait theory of leadership was questioned on the basis of universality of leadership traits. It was held that no consistent set of traits differentiated leaders from non-leaders i n an assortment of situations. A person with leadership traits in one circumstance may not be a leader in another situation (Daft, 2008, p 22). Behavioral theories The limited ability of traits to forecast effective leadership led researchers to review a person’s behavior rather than personal traits as a means of increasing leadership effectiveness. Behavioral theories proponents believed that leaders may well be identified by what they do rather than what they have. Certain behaviors such as the degree of flexibility, extent of control, concern for task accomplishment and concern for the followers determine the kind of leadership to exercise. For instance, McGregor held that leaders treat subordinates depending on the postulations they hold with regard to what energizes workers. In his theory X, McGregor presents a pessimistic view of workers whilst theory Y presents a fairly optimistic view of human nature. Leaders who subscribe to theory X consider that workers need to be controlled and threatened to make them work, which results in adoption of an autocratic style of leadership. Theory Y style of a leader believes that workers are rational people who consider work as part of everyday life. As such, the leader uses a participative/democratic style of leadership. Leader attributes in behavioral theories morphed from inherent to particular and teachable. Apparently, leadership styles could be learned as behavioral theorists created training programs. Behavioral theor

Proposing a Solution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Proposing a Solution - Essay Example Notably, cyber attacks do have the potential to create an extreme economic damage as well as, social impact that are disproportionally costly to the nation or organization at risk. Therefore, it is essential to establish workable approaches to maintaining the security of the communication and technological systems. The advent of the security challenges created another aspect of terror, an establishment that many nations are yet to consider as a possible channel for terror attacks. However, in the U.S. after the memorable 9/11 attack, the subject of security evolved into a critical matter that none of the congressional representatives or the general population would take lightly (Werner 16). It is notable that the cyber attack in all its aspects targets the essential applications and databases within any of the government or public institutions creating havoc against that nation (Levy, Michelle & Raymond 77). The media drama is as subjective as any physical bombing incidence, considering the psychological implications involved in the attack. The cyber attack can create an element of distrust and unstable relations among the populations. The cost to the nation is the absence of coordinated systems, which can bring the entire internet system of the nation down. This creates more chances for advan ced physical attacks on the country. The U.S. is at a heightened level of cyber threats considering the milestones it has made in the telecommunications and technological fields. An eminent attack in the entire systems of the nation would render a cyber apocalypse to the nation, bringing down all essential infrastructure required in daily activities of the government, business entities and the general population (Werner 16). At the helm of the escalating risks to the national security in the country, the cyber environment threats are equally evolving, as

Ways Music Brings Us Closer To Truth

Ways Music Brings Us Closer To Truth The quotation from Pablo Picasso said, Art is a lie that brings us nearer to the truth. By art, Picasso meant anything that was of a creative form; painting, literature, music, dancing, etc. The way the word lie is being used is not necessarily they way we would usually imply lying. Lie is used here instead of more like a way or path, or even substance that once weve been engulfed in we can see the truth for what it really is. Truth can be seen in a similar way, its not necessarily the truth but a realization of something that we didnt know about beforehand. The art form that I plan on using to validate Picassos quote is music. With music, you can become closer to the truth through, emotion, the language and words that are being used, with perception. Music, whether being Rap, Classical, or Rock all has a message hidden within the words or instrumentals that are being used. There are many ways in which music brings us closer to the truth, regardless of what genre is used. If a person has just had heartbreak, and choose to listen to love songs repeatedly emotion begins to arise. For a girl, of course she might be in tears and while listening to the songs the thought of her past relationship will come up. But it is possible that by listening to the songs, and the words being said that she might come to the realization that there are other people out there and that the break-up might not have been as bad after all. For a boy, he might use music to help motivate him for a big game that he is about to play in. The language being used could be seen as encouraging words that allow him to be brought up and well prepared for what is ahead of him. For anybody music can motivate, alter feelings or opinions on a matter, or help someone out in a situation. Music can be seen as a second conscience if wanted to be. Going back to the example of a boy being motivated be fore a big game, he is he listening to the song. Heart of a Champion by Nelly, the lyrics that are used in the chorusAint no way they can stop me now Nelly Cause Im on my way, I can feel my ring coming Its the blood of a champion, pumping Deep inside my veins, too much pride to be running Ima get what I can and more, even if My blood, my sweat, and my tears dont mean nothing Its the heart of a champion (its the heart of me) (Its the heart of a..) in me. (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/nelly/heartofachampion.html) These lyrics can be seem very motivational and almost identical to his thoughts about the game that he is about to play in. There are many theories regarding when and where music originated. Many agree that music began even before man existed. Historiographers point out that there are six periods of music and each period has a particular style of music that greatly contributed to what music is today (http://musiced.about.com/od/beginnersguide/a/intro.htm) The six periods of music include: Medieval/Middle ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th century. Music during the middle Ages is characterized by the beginning of musical notation as well as polyphony, there were two general types of music styles; the monophonic and the polyphonic. Renaissance means rebirth and in music this period brought about many changes in the way music was created and perceived. The word baroque comes from the Italian word barocco which means bizarre. The Baroque period was a time when composers experimented with form, styles and instruments. This period saw the development of opera and instrumental music. The music of the Classical period, which spans from 1750 to 1820, is characterized by simpler melodies and forms such as the sonatas. The piano was undoubtedly the primary instrument used by composers during the Classical period. Historiographers define the Romantic Music period from the 1800 to 1900. It is characterized by using music to tell a story or express an idea, and the use of various instruments including wind instruments. Melodies are fuller and more dramatic. Music during the 20th century brought about many innovations on how music was performed and appreciated. Artists were more willing to experiment on new music forms and used technology to enhance their compositions. (http://musiced.about.com/od/beginnersguide/a/intro.htm) Lyrics were actually poetry that is written by a person who has been through a situation and felt the need to write about it. The artist, or songwriter can been see as the person who is setting up the lie to help others come closer to the truth. If the writer has been through a hard time, the music he or she is producing helps those that are listening to realize that everyone is human and we have all been through it. Music can also sometimes be seen as therapeutic, or your own personal therapist. With these kinds of lyrics, they can be seem as almost autobiographical, a prime example for autobiographical lyrics is: Grandpa by Of Montreal. The lyrics in Grandpa are describing what an older man who is obviously a grandfather, does in his daily life. (http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-autobiographical-grandpa-lyrics-of-montreal.html) Lyrics can be calming and help achieve smoothing flows and words that are encouraging, sometimes that is all a person needs to calm down or to perceive someth ing correctly. But what happens when some music doesnt have words but just pure instruments how does a person still become motivated or come to a realization with just pure music? Classical music does not use words, but instead uses instruments to get its point across. How is it possible that with no words, someone can become nearer to the truth? This is where in WOK; emotion and perception comes in. If the tempo in the song is very fast and low, it could make the person realize how angry they are about something, as to where if the tempo is slow and not has low they can begin to calm down. Though the speed and melody that comes from classical music, it can change someones emotion after listening to it. If a person is distraught or very upset, they can listen to a song have their mood instantly altered. This type of music can even help them realize that the situation they are in is not as dire as they perceived it to be. If someone was going into an art museum, and Mozart was playing while people were viewing the art, some would say that it was very calming and allowed them to understand the art being viewed even better. This example shows, that music with or without words can still alter a persons feelings toward something or someone. There is a chance that with the classical music being played, that it could irritate and become very disruptive to a person in a art gallery. Maybe this person cannot stand classical music, or just likes the idea of absorbing the art without any noise being made in the back. Yes, it is easily seen how music can alter a persons feelings toward something, but it doesnt determine whether that alteration is negatively or positive. One genre of music, that may not fully validate Picassos statement, is Rapping. Not of all but most of the rappers talk about all the money, women, and cars that they have. One of the well known rappers of today that go against this statement is Lupe Fiasco. Thus there is still a big issue with a lot of young men who listen to this type of music, because they believe this is the life and that that is actually how the rappers live. Most rappers who actually do all that talking about all the stuff they have, are not speaking of truth. This is where the statement can be seen as invalid. The rapper is telling a lie but he is not bringing the persons listening to him closer to the truth but deeper in non-realistic world. On the contrary, there are some rappers who do live the life they speak of, and someones non-realistic world could be another mans real reality. However, not ever rapper speaks of lies; some tell stories that could be seen as almost fables during their songs. With the ref erence to fables I mean that the songs could be seen as stories that have a hidden story within it. Therefore, not every rapper should be seen in a negative light. Gil Scott-Heron (born April 1, 1949) is an American poet, musician, and author known primarily for his late 1960s and early 1970s work as a spoken word soul performer and his collaborative work with musician Brian Jackson. His collaborative efforts with Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. The music of these albums, most notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul. Scott-Herons recording work is often associated with black militant activism and has received much critical acclaim for one of his most well-known compositions The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. On his influence, Allmusic wrote Scott-Herons unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists. (http://gilscottheron.ne t/about/) Music is a big part of my life; I listen to it more than I watch the television. It allows me to get more focus; it motivates me, and allows me to realize things that I would not have been able to on my own. I listen to all genres but my personal favorite is RnB. With RnB the music isnt too fast or too slow, and the messages that are normally being portrayed go along with real life situations, and quickly help me to recover some of the truths that I need about life. Art is a lie that brings us nearer to the truth. Music is an art which is a lie that brings us nearer to the truth, by stating that in my opinion I believe that music is one of the biggest art forms that helps bring people closer to the truth. Music alters peoples opinions and feelings towards things and replaces them with those of the words they heard in the song. Music is everywhere. Even when you wait in an elevator there is music, allowing the ride to be smoothing and relaxing. Music is in the dentist and doctors office while youre waiting so you dont become so antsy. Just while walking in a grocery store if you listen, you will hear music being played while you are grabbing for that box of cereal. Music surrounds us. Music is in nature, the birds singing, the wind blowing, the sun shine-would allow a person to have a good day, as to where if the birds werent singing, the wind was blowing harshly and the sun behind clouds due to the fact of rain the emotion you would feel would d iffer. Music brings us nearer to the truth everyday without us even knowing it. Music tries to do its job but its up to us and how we interpret it whether or not the job was done correctly.

Tablets vs. Textbooks

During the 21st century, humans have developed the scientific technologies more rapidly than ever before. And the way of their lives is also changing according to the change of new technologies. Nowadays, we can easily see the people who are holding tablets with their hands around our place. A tablet is simply a mobile computer that is small, portable, and easy to use with just two fingers. Since it has been recognized for its usefulness and utility, many students study and do their homework with tablets. As tablets have become more prevalent, a new debate has formed over whether schools should replace print textbooks by tablets. In fact, many schools and states have begun transitioning from the paper textbooks to digital learning environments, â€Å"California launched a free digital textbooks initiative in 2009, and West Virginia replaced social studies print textbook purchases with digital textbooks† (FCC). However, there are some people who disagree with the idea of using t ablets in school. The opponent of tablets’ argument is that tablets can have a bad influence on student’s education in a way that it can distract student’s attention and contribute to an eye strain. I would argue that the positive aspects of using tablets in school outweigh the negative. The recent research has shown that tablets help students learn more materials faster, â€Å"Technology-based instruction can reduce the time students take to reach a learning objective by 30-80%, according to the US Department of Education and studies by the National Training† (FCC 9). Actually, tablets can provide various methods of studying which are very distinguishable from paper textbooks. It is possible for tablets to explain the concepts with such as sound and video clips. Not only do these functions make studying interesting, but it would really help students improve their learning abilities. In my experience, I also had more fun when I was studying with a tablet. R ather than just reading printed texts, variety of contents a tablet provides helped me understand the concepts more easily and interestingly. Also, tablets can hold thousands of books on one device. Usually, when we are using the paper textbooks, the books actually take up much space of our place. However, if we are using tablets, we can eliminate the need for physical storage of textbooks and classroom materials. It is known that â€Å"The average tablet contains anywhere from 8 to 64 gigabytes (GB)of storage space. On the Amazon Kindle Fire, for instance, 1,000 books take up one GB of space† (Price), which implies that people don’t need to go to the library every time when they need a book to borrow. Since they can find and read almost every book they need on one device, it can reduce the waste of time finding the books and help students concentrate on their studies. Furthermore, there is one another important aspect of the fact that tablets can hold thousands of boo ks, which is that it can eliminate the need for carrying heavy print textbooks.Up until now, students carry lots of heavy textbooks in their backpacks when they go to school. Not only does it make them feel tired, but it could actually cause injuries. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, it was recorded that â€Å"during the 2011-12 school year more than 13,700 kids, aged 5 to 18, were treated for backpack-related injuries† (Dallas). In contrast, a tablet only weighs 1-2 pounds, while the average weight of a student’s backpack is 15. 4 pounds (Dallas). When I was in high school, there were some students who didn’t want to carry the textbooks in their backpacks just because of its heavy weight. But, if they are told to carry a tablet instead of textbooks, I am pretty sure all of them wouldn’t resist doing it. Using tablets can also save some of the money purchasing from the print textbooks. For the print textbooks, there are printing, tra nsportation and warehouse costs. However, if we are using E-textbooks on tablets, we can yield tangible savings in these costs. In fact, it is reported that â€Å"E-textbooks can save schools between $250- $1,000 per student per year† (Electronista). With that amount of money saving per student, we can see that it would exceed the amount of expenditure on providing a tablet for each student.Similarly, using E-textbooks can also save our environment. Since all the print textbooks are made of paper, we have to cut down the trees to make a paper and ultimately print a textbook. Some statistical data has shown that A school with 100 teachers uses on average 250,000 pieces of paper annually. A school of 1,000 students on average spends between $3,000-4,000 a month on paper, ink, and toner, not counting printer wear and tear or technical support costs. (Williams) Indeed, we can see that we are using huge amount of papers in school and losing a lot of trees accordingly. But, if we ar e using tablets, it will lower the amount of papers teachers have to print out for the assignments and handouts, which will consequently help to save the environment. Furthermore, tablets help students better prepare for a world immersed in technology. Students will be able to develop their technology skills with tablets by simply doing homework, customizing the apps or making out presentation materials. In the present and near future, more jobs would require the worker’s high technology skill, since the tools that workers use is also rapidly developing and changing.According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, it reports that â€Å"Employment in computer and information systems is expected to grow by 18% between 2010 and 2020†. Therefore, students that learn technology skills early in their lives will be better prepared to pursue relevant careers later in life. However, there are some arguments that tablets can have a bad influence on student’s education. The argument that tablets have too many distractions for classroom uses has been considered to be one of the most important concerns we shouldn’t neglect.Indeed, there is a high possibility that students may pay attention more to the apps, games and websites instead of their teachers. But, if there’s the app for teachers that allow them to control all the devices in classroom, there will be no need to worry about students being distracted. Likewise, when I was in high school, students were not able to call with their phones within a school area. That was because the system in school blocked the student’s communication network, so we needed to go outside of school to make a call. Thus, in the similar way, schools may be able to block the distracting games and websites within the classroom. Another argument is that tablets are more susceptible to theft than print textbooks. It is reported that â€Å"In San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles, robberies related to in ternet –enabled handheld devices have accounted for 50, 40, and 25 percent respectively of all robberies in 2012† (Associated Press). Since the electronic devices such as tablets are likely to be more expensive than print textbooks, there will be a high possibility for the danger of theft. Therefore, it will be very important to have a system that protects against the danger of tablet theft, if schools replace print textbooks by tablets. For the solution, schools may limit the use of tablets outside of school and let students keep their own tablets in their lockers. And in fact, there is already the app that can track down the location of its device, so it would help prevent theft from others. Through researching the both advantages and disadvantages of using tablets in schools, I could have found that there are  more advantages than disadvantages.Even though tablets have some distractions and are more susceptible to theft than print textbooks, those problems can be re solved with the appropriate school’s policy. Rather, we should focus on the positive influence that tablets can bring up on the students’ education. In fact, many students easily fall asleep in class while reading the textbooks, because the print textbooks are boring to read and the reading level of some of the textbooks is too difficult so that students sometimes cannot understand the important concepts. But, tablets can help reduce this kind of problems, because it can make learning fun and easy in a way of explaining the concepts. In print textbooks, it explains the concepts usually with bunch of written words, sometimes with pictures. Every page looks almost same if we don’t look carefully on the content of writing. In contrast, the way of tablets can explain some particular concept is countless. Unlike the print textbooks, tablets allow us customize its software in several ways.In that way, teachers can make their lectures more interesting and attractive for the students. Then, students will less likely to fall asleep during the class and learn more materials. In addition, students no longer have to carry bunch of heavy textbooks, if they can use tablets. Also, not only using tablets instead of textbooks can save money from the printing, transportation and warehouse costs, but it can also save our environment by reducing the amount of trees cutting down to make a paper.Consequently, I could have noticed from researching the topic that the positive effect of tablets on student’s education outweighs the negative. Tablets can effectively help students improve their learning abilities and creativities. Besides, it positively influences on the environment and students’ health problem. But still, many people tend to stick to traditional education system. As we are living in an era of rapid technological change, it is also important for the education system to change and evolve correspondingly.

The Elixir of Love

I watched Leisure damper (also called The Elixir of Love), a comic opera performed in two acts, created by the Italian composer Cottage Downsized in the nineteenth century. It was the most often performed opera in Italy between 1838 and 1848. The play showed the love triangle between the main characters. Merino, a young villager, was in love with the beautiful farm owner Adding. Unfortunately, he never knew how to get her attention; she was very indifferent and, apparently, she did not care about love at all.Hopeless, Merino .NET to see the traveling quack doctor, Dulcimers, to ask him for a love potion that could make Adding fall for him. Things got worse when Sergeant Belcher arrived in town. He felt immediately attracted to Adding as well and asked the lady to marry him. Adding, to get revenge on Merino, accepted the proposal. Thenceforth, Merino had to try his best to clarify the situation and seduce the beautiful lady. To my eyes, the whole play was completely addictive and hear t-wringing. Furthermore, I felt really involved with the characters and the ending was very satisfying. The setting was extraordinary. Although It was always the same background, the light fixture and additional ornamentation made it look flawless all the time. There were also some visual effects that helped a lot to create appropriate situations, for Instance, the different times of the day. The costumes of the cast were totally accurate with the era that the play was trying to represent. They presented beautiful dresses for the ladies and elegant or humble outfits for the men, depending on their characters, of course. As for the music and the acting, I must admit I was massively Impressed.I had never watched an opera before, but I had seen lots of plays. Nevertheless, this has been my favorite so far. The music was outstanding. Every time one of the cast members started to sing, I felt out of this world. They had an Impressive talent and vocal ability, and the orchestra also did an amazing Job. Moreover, the acting was superb. They were all really charming and committed. The cast had the power to bring me from laughter to tears In Just a second. Allele's damper Is definitely an opera that I would go watch again If possible. It was terrific!

A Quiz About Hyphenating Phrasal Adjectives

A Quiz About Hyphenating Phrasal Adjectives A Quiz About Hyphenating Phrasal Adjectives A Quiz About Hyphenating Phrasal Adjectives By Mark Nichol One of the most frequent mechanical errors in writing is the omission or misuse of hyphens when two or more words are used to modify a following noun. In the sentences below, remedy the absence or abuse of hyphens in the phrasal adjective and compare your revision to mine: 1. â€Å"He’s one of the world’s best known zoologists.† As is, the sentence implies that among known zoologists, he’s one of the best. But what it means is that among the world’s zoologists, he one of the best known, so that two-word phrase is a phrasal adjective and should be hyphenated before the noun zoologists: â€Å"He’s one of the world’s best-known zoologists.† 2. â€Å"The increasingly high on its own supply movie studio has once more delved into its library.† This sentence suffers from the same error as the previous one, multiplied several times. The words in the phrase â€Å"high on its own supply† must be linked like railroad cars for the statement to make sense: â€Å"The increasingly high-on-its-own-supply movie studio has once more delved into its library.† (Increasingly, because it is an adverb, not an adjective, doesn’t have a ticket for this train.) 3. â€Å"A lot can happen during a three or four day holiday weekend.† Again, a lack of connective tissue is the fault here; the solution is suspensive hyphenation. The object refers to a holiday weekend that might last three days or four days, but it’s not necessary to repeat day. It is, however, imperative to hyphenate such a construction as follows: â€Å"A lot can happen during a three- or four-day holiday weekend.† 4. â€Å"Whatever happened to the catalogs of yore, like the four-inch thick Sears tome?† Incomplete hyphenation muddles this sentence, which implies that an artifact known as a thick Sears tome has four inches. The intended meaning, however, is that the Sears tome is four inches thick, so that three-word phrase describing its size must be linked into one unit: â€Å"Whatever happened to the catalogs of yore, like the four-inch-thick Sears tome?† 5. â€Å"Behind-the-scenes, he repeatedly employed procedural technicalities to undermine proposals.† Freestanding common phrases that are also often employed as phrasal adjectives and thus frequently seen with hyphens are often mistakenly hyphenated; the first three words in this sentence, however, require hyphens only if they collectively modify a noun (â€Å"behind-the-scenes plotting†): â€Å"Behind the scenes, he repeatedly employed procedural technicalities to undermine proposals.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Planet of the Apes essays

Planet of the Apes essays The mise-en-scene of the movie Planet of the Apes played an astronomical role in all aspects of the movie. Mise-en-scene is everything that is front of the camera from costumes, make-up, setting, and acting. The costumes and make-up were very important in this movie since apes were being played by humans. The actors and actresses had to go through four hours of make-up each day to make sure they looked perfect for the scenes. The director, Tim Burton, wanted to make sure there was a great sense of realism, which is an attitude of the mind that is a desire of the truth, to the movie. Each mask was made up of plaster to mold the face to make each character have a separate face. The rubber plastic is then molded to the face and then detail is put on each characters mask. Hair and make-up are then applied to each mask. The actors then have to get their false teeth made to fit in their mouths. The costumes are created so that they are more advanced than the first Planet of the Apes and more modernized. One example of this is how Mark Wahlbergs space suit changes to a space suit that has been burned and torn apart. The costumes help add to the mood and history of each character. They also had to hand make every piece of clothing for the apes and had to be tailored to each character. The setting of Planet of the Apes is at Lake Powell where there is a lake, giant rock formations, and mountains. Most of the scenes in the movie are in like a city inside a forest and a desert type of region outside of the forest and city. In the final battle scene, the setting takes place in the desert region where there are mountains of sand and rock like structures that resemble Stonehenge. This makes a great for the battle scene since it adds to the atmosphere and mood of the battle. The acting also plays a role in mise-en-scene. The actors in this movie went through training for many months so that they could act as apes naturally. Th...

ARTICLE SUMMARY - APPLYING LEAN SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGIES TO IMPROVE

SUMMARY - APPLYING LEAN SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGIES TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY - Article Example Moreover, certain methods like rapid cycle test to determine if the baseline of data collected is in accordance to the implementation of efficient clinic visits. Inclusive of the time-study, no- show data and physician-patient familiarity data were used during this study. The results of the study after their analysis showed that massive implication of workflow processes in internal medicine residency clinics can be a disaster if there is no arrangement that has been scheduled to curb difficulties in health care and disease management. When the Institute of Medicine came up with a report, To Err Is Human, in 1999, concerns on the quality of health care have emerged. The Institute of Medicine also came up with another report, Crossing the Quality Chasm, recommending that the quality of health care should be an issue patient encounter on federal regulations as per the overarching framework of patient to the government. When Berwick was presenting his finding he suggested that due to wid e areas of quality growth towards health care, the idea should not deviate from the real issue of patient interests and experiences towards attaining good health care. Literature reviews on this topic show the importance of major improvements required by the patients; for instance renowned author Atlas explained how patient’s mutual relation with their physician can influence the quality of medical care delivered. The presentation showed that this relationship between patient- physicians is of greater importance towards delivering quality health care than their personality’s backgrounds. Another author, Street RL also went further suggesting that the patient’s details sharing with the physician shows a strong bond of trust between the care providers and hence leads to patients following the instructions prescribed to them on treatment. A revelation also came up that most strong patient-physician relationship are as a result of past experiences and other historic mutual encounters over a period time (Atlas SJ, 2009). Joshi also suggested that a further related cultural identity among the patients and their provider can have great impacts towards results of disease management mostly in less populated areas with high occurrence of chronic diseases for example diabetes (Joshi R, 2010). This research, the Kline Internal Medicine Throughput Initiative (Kim TI), showed that the risk of a disease getting to its advanced stage is as a result the patient not presenting him or herself for checkups. Furthermore, another cause of no-show rates was said to be the long waiting time in the clinics that contributed to long medical services. Hence, a â€Å"Lean Six Sigma† methodology was adopted to determine the hindrance of efficiency and enduring health care in internal medical clinics with an aim of increasing the number of patients availing themselves for appointments and their adherence to treatment prescriptions and disease management procedure s. This ensures efficient and effective utilization of scarce health resources and personnel available per a given population. Methods In October 2008, KimIT team from Harrisburg Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program was formed to focus on the factors affecting the adherence of physicians’ treatment prescription plan using data from visits portrayed by patients for checkups in clinics. Their first role was to design a clear

ANTH 25 Assignment 7 - Essay Example Hence, employees at this level can work with the management team without much difficulty. I like my job because I always enjoyed playing with numbers while I was young. Banking too has been my core career interest and it fits into my educational goals. The main challenge is the time factor because the financial industry requires an employee to work for many hours due to the workload and limited time resource. This affects off-work commitments and relationships. I overcame this by re-arranging my schedules. The time factor also prevents employees wishing to any form of part-time study program. Today, graduates get an average of $53,000, but my starting salary was at $49,900. The employment of other employees in this position is an improvement from the earlier $49,700 in 2012. The Hobbit :: Essays Papers

The Hobbit In this most appealing book, Bilbo gets caught up in an adventure he never dreamed of, that will later change his life. In the beginning Bilbo Baggins runs into an old acquaintance, Gandalf, a wizard, who he had met many years earlier at festivals, where Gandalf had made fireworks with his magic. Bilbo and Gandalf talked for a while and Bilbo being the kind and polite hobbit he was invited him for tea in his hill the next day. There at about the time Bilbo was expecting Gandalf he heard a knock at the door, but when he opened the door it was in fact not Gandalf but a little dwarf. The dwarf introduced himself to Bilbo as Thorin Oakenshield, son of Throror, son of Thrain. He then let himself in. After that many dwarves followed, actually 9 more had come to the little hobbit's doorstep. Then finally after all the dwarves had made themselves comfortable he heard another tap at the door, and sure enough it was Gandalf, but with 3 other dwarves. That night Gandalf and the dwarves spoke of wondrous tales and of a dragon’s gold that had once belonged to Thorin’s father. They also told of an adventure they were about to embark on, and then turning to Gandalf they asked what of the 13th member of the party? Gandalf spoke up and said, "My, the one I have chosen is the burglar Mr. Baggins." Bilbo did not seem pleased, for he had no need of adventure with his pleasant yet simplistic life. Even though he was secretly intrigued, but more so he was very scared. After a bit of chitchat Bilbo agreed to go and they all went to bed. When morning came Bilbo found no one in his hobbit hole, and it’s needless to say that he was very pleased, yet at the same time also a bit disappointed. He found a note from Gandalf on his Mantle telling him to meet them at the inn. So Bilbo embarked on his journey to the inn as well as his adventure. Many divergences transpired during their trip to the lonely mountain where the dragon lay with the adventurers’ soon to be gold. The journey was no walk in the park. Many fights sprung up, traps triggered, dark forests in need of paths appeared, and having to deal with creatures like trolls, goblins, elves, spiders, and many others.

How Multi-Agency Teams Work Together to Form a Support Network

14. 4. 2 Peter explained that multi-agency teams work together to form a support network, they also work together to make the best plan/programme for the parents, school and child to get the best possible outcome and the child to achieve their potential. A child struggling with communicating and language may see a speech and language therapist, special education needs co-ordinator, psychologist, depending on the child’s requirement all have a different job within the team to get the best out of the child. Special Education Needs Co-ordinator – They organise all the members in the team and keeps checks on how things are going and making sure that all members are talking to each other by planning meetings. Speech and language therapist – They diagnosis the communication delay and advice on ways the child can be helped and sets down a plan/programme. If a child is coping with other forms of disability then there are other team member that can help to bring the best out in a child, if they are have a visual impairment or have autism. Sensory support teacher – help children and advice schools that have visual or auditory impairment on how to keep the child involved and what they need to do extra to make the child feel at ease. Autism advisory teacher- advise schools on the needs of a child with autism, who maybe struggling with social interaction and communication. They may work with the child at the school to get the best outcome. If none of the above are having affect and the child still doesn’t seem to be making the right progress then an Educational Psychologist may come involved to talk to the child and find out if there are other problems affecting the child that other members in the team cannot see. All the above have to have a good working relationship together to get the best outcome for the child, each on brings different advice and support for the parents and school so that their child can achieve the best in either the fastest time or over a long period.
